Occupational Health & Safety


It is extremely important you know your rights and responsibilities.

Create and Implement Occupational Health & Safety Policy
(Under regulation 851 section 25 (2)(j): …an employer shall prepare and review at least annually a written occupational health and safety policy and develop and maintain a program to implement that policy.)

Create and Implement Personal Protective Equipment Policy
(Under regulation 851 section 79: A worker required to wear of or use any protective clothing, equipment or device shall be instructed and trained in its care and use before wearing the protective clothing, equipment or devices.)

Create and Implement Accident/Injury Policy.

Create and Implement WHMIS Policy & Program. (Under regulation 851 section 42(1): In addition to providing information and instruction to a worker as required by clause 25(2)(a), an employer shall ensure that a worker exposed or likely to be exposed to a hazardous material or to a hazardous physical agent receives, and that the worker participates in such instruction and training as my be prescribed.)

Compile and Implement Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) Binder.
(Under regulation 851 section 37 (1)(b): An employer shall obtain or prepare, as may be prescribed, an unexpired material safety data sheet or all hazardous materials present in the workplace;………..)

Create and Implement Safety Bulletin Board.

Create and Maintain Employee/Driver Qualification Files.
(Under the Highway Traffic Act you are required to maintain driver qualification files.)

Establish, Maintain and Implement Joint Health & Safety Committee
(Under regulation 851 section 9(2)(a): A joint health and safety is required, at a workplace at which twenty or more worker are regularly employed……….)
Create and Implement First Aid Policy & Program
(Under regulation 1101 all employers are required to maintain a first aid kit/ room depending on size of organization)
Create and Implement Emergency Management Plans.
Create and Implement Spill Contingency Plans.

Create and Implement Lockout/Tagout Program.
(Under regulation 851 section 42 (7) states that the employer shall establish and implement written procedures for compliance with this section) Section 42 outlines requirements for lockout tagout.

Create and Implement Confined Space Entry Program.
Create and Install Health & Safety Awareness Signage.

Coordinate Emergency Evacuation and Fire Drills.

Create, Implement and Conduct Annual Safety Meeting Schedule.
